Heat pump grants: the Boiler Upgrade Scheme

The availability of, and eligibility for, heat pump grants is evolving. If you’re looking to install a heat pump you’ve come to the right place.

Getting the BUS grant is straightforward but there are a few steps you need to progress to lock it in.

The Boiler Upgrade Scheme remains in place (for now)

The November Budget has - thankfully - seen little upheaval in the grants available to homeowners wanting to install a heat pump. In headline terms:

Grant allowance

The amount you can get remains at £7,500 for eligible households

Application deadline

As things stand, the BUS grant is due to be available until 2028, subject to further announcements in the Warm Homes Plan

Eligability

Air to heat heat pumps are now eligible for funding, but at a reduced grant rate of £2,500

You can get moving now and grab your funding voucher whilst it’s all still available.
Am I eligible?
First things first, let’s look at eligibility for the Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS) grant.
Check this list to make sure that you are eligible to receive the £7,500 grant. Bear in mind that from next year, air to air heat pumps will also be able to secure a grant, but at the much lower rate of £2,500.
1
You need to be a homeowner in England or Wales.
2
You need to be replacing a fossil fuelled heating system, (e.g. a gas, LPG or oil boiler) or direct electrical heating (e.g. storage heaters).
3
Your installer must be certified with the Microgeneration Certification Scheme
4
You will need a valid EPC (Energy Performance Certificate)
I really can't believe how warm it is!
Jo
Somerset
We recently supported Jo in installing a heat pump in her bungalow in Sedgemoor, Somerset. For years Jo had struggled with a cold home, despite investing in various items to warm her home, including an infrared heating panel.
Jo
I would encourage everyone to do it
Jennifer
Somerset
I would encourage everyone to do it for climate change reasons...I think heat pumps are the solution.

Where does the grant sit in the process with Thermly?
Our local installers apply for this on your behalf once you’re ready to proceed, after the survey, but before the installation commences.
The grant needs to be agreed and confirmed by OFGEM before the work goes ahead.
